ITALIAN CARRARA MARBLE SCULPTURE OF A SEATED LADY AFTER PAOLO TRISCORNIA

$25,000.00

The striking Italian marble sculpture showcases a seated woman atop a stone, capturing intricate details of her flowing dress cascading around her feet as she reclines on an intricately designed rock. With a contemplative gaze fixed into the distance, she delicately arranges her hair. The white Carrara marble beautifully accentuates the fine details of her frilly dress, luxurious locks, and the elaborate stone platform on which she rests.

Paolo di Ferdinando Triscornia (1856-1936) notably appended 'di Ferdinando' to his name as a means of differentiation from another sculptor who shared his name and was active in Carrara until 1907. His decision was likely to avoid confusion between their works and identities. Triscornia's lineage traced back to another distinguished sculptor, Paolo Triscornia (1757-1833), known for his contributions to Neoclassical sculpture. This earlier Triscornia notably spent much of his career working in Saint Petersburg, leaving a lasting mark on the art scene there.
