'Romeo and Juliet' - a pair of antique italian marble figures
$130,000.00
This magnificent pair of antique Italian life-sized hand-carved marble figures depicts Romeo and Juliet, the young lovers in the famous play by William Shakespeare.
One figure shows a love-struck man gazing up, as a bycoket rests neatly on his head. In his arms he holds a mandolin with effortless skill and finesse, as the sleeves from his gown hang loosely from his arms. His right leg remains bent where his left lay out straight, as he leans on a wall. He stands humbled and entranced by the beauty before as he sings gleefully as Romeo would do for Juliet.
The complementary piece shows a woman leaning over a balcony entranced by what she hears. Her dress wrinkles carelessly against the edge of the balcony, as she rests the side of her face on her hand. With her neatly tied hair hanging loosely behind her, she looks away with a smile as to tease the man who plays that wonderful tune.
